It is an inhibitor of the enzyme boronic acid reductase, which catalyzes the conversion of boronic acids to alcohols in the presence of NADH. 2-Cyclohexylethylboronic acid binds to borinic acid in the active site, preventing substrate from entering and reducing the activity of this enzyme. 2-Cyclohexylethylboronic acid has been shown to inhibit subtilisin, an enzyme that degrades proteins in food products such as bread dough and cheese curds.
