2-Methyl-6-(piperidin-1-yl)nicotinonitrile is a red fluorescent probe that can be used to identify mitochondria. It binds to the basic protein of mitochondria, which is an activator of autophagy and hydrogen bond donor. 2-Methyl-6-(piperidin-1-yl)nicotinonitrile has been shown to bind with polymerase chain proteins and interacting proteins, as well as growth factors. This probe also interacts with mitochondrial superoxide and mitochondrial membrane potential, which are important for cell survival.
