2-Fluoro-3-(trifluoromethyl)pyridine is a potent and selective TRPV1 antagonist. It has been shown to be bioisosteric with its natural precursor, 2-amino-5-trifluoromethylpyridine. This drug binds to the TRPV1 receptor at the level of the S4 subsite and competes with capsaicin for binding. The potency of this compound is greater than other TRPV1 antagonists, including SB242084, AMG9810, and A85380. 2-Fluoro-3-(trifluoromethyl)pyridine also has potent antagonistic effects on other members of the transient receptor potential family such as TRPM8, TRPA1, and TRPV2.
