8-Fluoro-5,6-Dihydro-5-Methyl-6-Oxo-4H-Imidazo[1,5-a][1,4]Benzodiazepine-3-Carboxylic Acid is a benzodiazepine receptor agonist. It is used for the treatment of anxiety disorders and insomnia. The binding of 8FDA to the benzodiazepine receptor results in an increase in the efficacy of GABA neurotransmission. This drug has been shown to induce a decrease in metabolism as well as an increase in blood flow and oxygen consumption in human liver cells. 8FDA also has been shown to have a high affinity for rat striatal membranes and uptake into human occipital cortex and striatal membranes.
