[(1R,2S,3S,4S,5R,6S)-5-Fluoro-2,4-Dihydroxy-3,6-Diphosphonooxycyclohexyl] Dihydrogen Phosphate (FPP) is a membrane hyperpolarizing agent that has been shown to activate mouse hippocampal neurons. FPP selectively blocks the calcium permeability of non-selective cation channels and enhances cytosolic calcium concentration by blocking the endoplasmic reticulum release of Ca2+. The main pharmacological action of FPP is on voltage-gated calcium channels. FPP also blocks L-, N-, P/Q-, and R-type voltage gated calcium channels.
