3-(3-Fluorophenyl)prop-2-enal is a chiral, organocatalytic, trisubstituted benzaldehyde. It is used in the synthesis of enantiomerically pure β-unsaturated aldehydes, which are used as reagents for the preparation of pharmaceuticals. 3-(3-Fluorophenyl)prop-2-enal can be produced from the reaction of acetone with an inorganic base and a five membered ring enone. This chemical is also used in organic syntheses to produce chloride salts and yields. 3-(3-Fluorophenyl)prop-2-enal can be prepared by reacting benzaldehyde with a chlorinating agent and an aliphatic alcohol.
