- Benzoic acid 4-formyl-phenyl ester
4-Formylphenyl benzoate (4FPB) is a peroxy that is synthesized through an asymmetric synthesis. 4FPB has been shown to have a high degree of selectivity for the benzoylation of anilines and phenols, making it a possible alternative to other methods such as photooxidation. The mechanism of this reaction is not fully understood, but it is believed to be due to the nucleophilic nature of the peroxide group. 4FPB has also been shown to produce reactive oxygen species (ROS) in lipase-catalyzed reactions. The mechanistic study of these reactions suggests that ROS may be generated by the oxidation of a benzoic acid intermediate.
