- 4-Amino-2-fluoro-5-nitroanisole
5-Fluoro-4-methoxy-2-nitroaniline is an antimalarial drug that belongs to the class of 8-aminoquinolines. It is synthesised from 5-fluoro-4-methoxybenzoic acid and 2,4,6-trichloroiodobenzene. This drug has been shown to be a nucleophile and electrophile. The nitrogen in this compound can act as both a base and an acid. 5FMN is used in the treatment of malaria caused by Plasmodium falciparum because it inhibits the growth of parasites by interfering with DNA synthesis. This compound also shows antiinflammatory activity.
