4-Fluorophenyl-5'-oxobutyric acid is an antithrombotic agent that is a member of the group of desfluoro compounds. It is produced by introducing an asymmetric fluorine atom into the molecule, which changes the chemical properties and increases the stability of this compound. 4-Fluorophenyl-5'-oxobutyric acid has been shown to have potent antiplatelet activity in rats with induced stroke and may be used as a feedstock for biofuels or pharmaceuticals. This compound has been shown to increase levels of high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL) and decrease levels of low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL).
