4-Formamido benzoic acid is a chiral monomer that is used in coatings, adhesives and other products. It can be used as an intermediate for the synthesis of pharmaceuticals. 4-Formamido benzoic acid has a reactive conformation that is influenced by the presence of hydrogen bond donors and acceptors in the environment. This conformational change leads to changes in reactivity, stereochemistry and optical properties. The active site of 4-formamido benzoic acid is a carboxyl group attached to an amide group with a secondary alcohol group on the opposite side. Reactions involving this functional group lead to biotransformation products, such as formamide, formate and formaldehyde. These products are then converted into other chemicals such as amino acids and sugars via enzymatic reactions or fermentation. Dichroism spectroscopy can be used to determine whether or not a compound has a chiral center.
