Descrizione

Fosinoprilat is a prodrug of enalaprilat that has been shown to be as effective as enalapril in the treatment of congestive heart failure. Fosinoprilat is rapidly converted to enalaprilat, which inhibits angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) and prevents the formation of angiotensin II, a potent vasoconstrictor. The matrix effect is an important factor for the bioavailability of drugs in humans. A two-way crossover study on human volunteers found that fosinoprilat increased plasma concentrations of enalaprilat by up to 40%. Fosinopril binds to toll-like receptor 4, which may contribute to its pharmacokinetic properties.
