2-Fluoro-1,3-dimethoxybenzene (2FDB) is a fluorine containing compound that has the ability to inhibit the growth of malaria parasites. It has been shown to inhibit the growth of Plasmodium falciparum and Plasmodium vivax in culture and in mice. 2FDB binds to the vacuole membrane of these parasites, which prevents them from taking up nutrients and causes their death. 2FDB also interacts with xanthones, which are natural antimalarial compounds found in plants such as Aloe vera. This interaction may increase the effectiveness of 2FDB against malaria parasites.
