4-Fluoro-L-phenylalanine is a synthetic amino acid that has been shown to have a proteolytic activity in cell cultures. It is also able to form insoluble gels in the presence of aspartic acid, and can be used to study the mechanism of protein aggregation. 4-Fluoro-L-phenylalanine has been synthesized computationally and its fluorescence properties have been investigated by fluorescence assay and tetrapeptides. This amino acid can also be used for mechanistic studies of protein aggregation with a spectrometer. 4-Fluoro-L-phenylalanine is a fluorescent amino acid which can be used for quantitative analysis in PC12 cells.
