2-Fluoronicotinic acid is a pharmacokinetic agent that inhibits the biosynthesis of picolinic acid, which is an important intermediate in the synthesis of nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate (NADP). This compound has been shown to have anticancer activity in vitro. 2-Fluoronicotinic acid is also used as an inhibitor in the treatment of hyperproliferative diseases, such as cancer. 2-Fluoronicotinic acid can be synthesized by reacting 3-chloro-2-nitrobenzoic acid with hydrochloric acid and phosphorus pentachloride. The sodium salt of 2-fluoronicotinic acid can be administered by injection or intravenously.
