2-Fluoro-4-nitropyridine is a compound that can be synthesized by reacting 2-fluoro-4-nitrophenol with phosphorus pentachloride. It is a ligand for the mu opioid receptor and has been used to study the function of this receptor in the central nervous system. Microwave irradiation of 2-fluoro-4-nitropyridine leads to its conversion into an analog of 4,5,6,7-tetrahydroisoquinoline (THIQ) and other compounds. The THIQ analogues have shown potential as analgesics.
