1-Fluoropyridinium trifluoromethanesulfonate is a synthetic fluorinated organic compound that has been synthesized for use as a pharmaceutical agent. It is used in the treatment of patients with estrogen receptor-positive breast cancer, or who are postmenopausal and have been diagnosed with osteoporosis. 1-Fluoropyridinium trifluoromethanesulfonate has been shown to be effective in inhibiting the production of estrone and picolinic acid, which are metabolites of estradiol. This drug also inhibits the synthesis of DNA by blocking the enzyme RNA polymerase II at an early stage. The mechanism of action is thought to involve nucleophilic attack on the electrophilic carbon atom adjacent to the hydroxyl group. 1-Fluoropyridinium trifluoromethanesulfonate was found to be metabolized via perfluoroalkylation
