3-Fluorobenzylamine is an epidermal growth factor analogue that binds to the EGF receptor and stimulates cell proliferation. 3-Fluorobenzylamine has been shown to have a selective effect on epidermal cells, which may be due to its ability to bind stereoselectively to nucleobases. The synthesis of 3-fluorobenzylamine can be achieved by reacting benzaldehyde with hydroxylamine hydrochloride in the presence of sodium methoxide. This compound is characterized by good solubility in organic solvents, high stability, and low toxicity. It has been found to inhibit autophagy and have anticancer activity in vivo.
