Fmoc-Trp-OPfp is a fluorescent probe used to study the transfer mechanism of pentafluorophenyl groups. Fmoc-Trp-OPfp is synthesized in a solid phase synthesis, and its fluorescence resonance is sensitive to the hydrophobicity of the environment. The fluorescence emission profile can be used to determine the rate at which pentafluorophenyl groups are transferred from one molecule to another. It has also been shown that this probe can be used as a model system for virus infections.
Fmoc-Trp-OPfp has a number of conjugates that make it useful for these purposes:
1) Fmoc-Trp-OPfp has been conjugated with polyethylene glycol (PEG) to decrease its hydrophobicity and increase its solubility in water;
2) Fmoc-Trp-OPfp has been conjugated with
