Fmoc-Lys(Boc)-OL is a synthetic amino acid that can be used to develop a new class of drugs for the treatment of metabolic disorders. The compound mimics the effects of insulin in cells, by binding to insulin receptors and activating them. Fmoc-Lys(Boc)-OL also has an effect on fatty acid utilisation and is able to reverse the effects of insulin resistance in vitro. This drug has been shown to have significant anti-inflammatory effects in ovary cells, although it is not yet known how these effects are achieved. Fmoc-Lys(Boc)-OL binds reversibly with nitro groups and phenyl groups, which may make it a useful tool for studying those chemical functionalities.
