2-Fluororesorcinol is a phenolic compound that is obtained from the oxidation of resorcinol. It has been shown to have a regiospecificity constant for 2,3-dihydroxyphenyl-2-fluoro-1,4-benzoquinones. The mechanism of this reaction is through the demethylation of a methyl group on the ring. The photophysical properties of 2-fluororesorcinol are due to its fluorescence and its ability to absorb light at wavelengths below 450 nm. 2-Fluororesorcinol undergoes an amination reaction with an azide in the presence of mercury chloride and aluminium chloride to form an olefinic compound. This reaction also produces fluorescent products. 2-Fluororesorcinol is oxidized by tyrosinase and other oxidising agents to produce phenols and quinones, which are products that can be used as markers
