- 8-Fluoronaphthalen-2-Ol
8-Fluoro-2-naphthol is a hydroxylated phenolic compound that can be synthesized from 8-fluoro-1,5-dinitrobenzene. The target compound has been shown to undergo diazotization and hydrolysis in the presence of nitrous acid to produce a phenolate anion. The phenolate anion can then react with bromine or fluorine to form a bromoxylate or fluorooxylate salt, respectively. This process is known as bromination or fluorination. The hydroxyl group on the aromatic ring of 8-fluoro-2-naphthol allows for the formation of an ether bond with other molecules, which may be useful in synthesizing other compounds.
