3-Fluoro-4-nitrobenzyl bromide is a chiral, hydroxyl group containing molecule. It is amide, ether, and atropisomers of 3-fluoro-4-nitrobenzyl bromide. The natural product has been reported in the literature as an efficient hydroxyl alkylation agent for the synthesis of amino acids, such as phenylalanine and tyrosine. 3-Fluoro-4-nitrobenzyl bromide has also been shown to have bioactivity in the form of inhibition of the enzyme cathepsin D. This activity is attributed to its ability to act as an inhibitor by undergoing a macrocyclization process with the active site serine residue on cathepsin D.
