2-(4-Fluorophenyl)-Benzothiazole is a thermal-expansion ancillary that has been used to study the kinetics of bond cleavage. It reacts with chloride ions to form 2-(4-fluorophenyl)-benzothiazole chloride and can be used to measure reaction time. The photophysical properties of 2-(4-Fluorophenyl)-Benzothiazole have been studied in detail because it is luminescent, making it useful for a variety of applications such as luminescent sensors, optical switches, and light emitters. 2-(4-Fluorophenyl)-Benzothiazole also undergoes allylation reactions with a nucleophilic reagent to form an allyl compound.
