2-Fluoro-6-nitro-1,3-benzothiazole is a fluorescent compound that can be used as a reagent in the analysis of primary amines. It has been shown to react with an acceptor at low temperatures, but not at high temperatures. The rate of reaction is proportional to the concentration of nucleophiles and kinetic constants are determined by the temperature. 2-Fluoro-6-nitro-1,3-benzothiazole can be used to catalyze the reaction between amines and nitrous acid. This reaction is bifunctional because it also produces nitrosobenzene as a byproduct. The uncatalysed reaction has a higher rate than the catalysed reaction.
