(4-Fluoro-3-Nitrophenyl)Arsonic Acid is a histidine residue that belongs to the carboxylate family. It has been shown to be a nucleophile in the protonation of uridine and alkylation of proteins, and can be used as a ligand in chromophore disruption. (4-Fluoro-3-Nitrophenyl)Arsonic Acid has been shown to denature proteins by protonation and alkylation. This process disrupts the three dimensional structure of proteins, which affects their function. This chemical also has acidic properties, which are due to its chromophore that absorbs light at wavelengths between 400 and 650 nm. The acidic nature of (4-Fluoro-3-Nitrophenyl)Arsonic Acid makes it an effective buffer for biological media with pH values below 5.5.
