(1S)-1-(4-Fluorophenyl)-1,2-Ethanediol is an asymmetric synthesis of the naturally occurring 1,2-diol. It is an aromatic compound that has been shown to inhibit glucose dehydrogenase and escherichia coli reductases. (1S)-1-(4-Fluorophenyl)-1,2-Ethanediol is a substrate for both enzymes, but it is not known which enzyme this molecule inhibits more effectively. The enzyme inhibition by (1S)-1-(4-Fluorophenyl)-1,2-Ethanediol has been optimized with cosolvents such as ethanol and acetonitrile. The chirality of this molecule was also confirmed by optical activity measurements. This product also has high vicinal diastereoselectivity and dehydrogenase efficiency.
