4-Fluorobiphenyl is an aromatic hydrocarbon that has a constant boiling point, which makes it useful for the preparation of organic solvents. It can also be used in the treatment of renal cell carcinomas and as a probe for magnetic resonance spectroscopy. 4-Fluorobiphenyl inhibits formylation of proteins and has been shown to have an inhibitory effect on the growth of cancer cells. This compound is a sample preparation technique for the detection of other aromatic hydrocarbons such as biphenyl, which is used in Covid-19 pandemic prevention. 4-Fluorobiphenyl can also be used to detect perfluoroalkane carboxylic acids and their derivatives in environmental chemistry, due to its high volatility.
