N-[(4-Fluorophenyl)Methyl]-2-(2-Nitroimidazol-1-Yl)Acetamide is a fatty acid inhibitor that inhibits the biosynthesis of polyunsaturated fatty acids. It is used in the production of food hydrocolloids and as a radiosensitizing agent. N-[(4-Fluorophenyl)Methyl]-2-(2-Nitroimidazol-1-Yl)Acetamide has been shown to inhibit the growth of V79 cells, hamster lung fibroblasts, and other cells in culture. It also binds to monoclonal antibodies that are specific for sulfanyl groups in proteins. The drug may be active against some types of cancer, such as breast cancer, due to its ability to inhibit amino acid transport into cells.
