1-Fluoro-4-(1-methylethenyl)benzene is an organic compound that belongs to the group of styrene derivatives. This compound is obtained by the reaction of styrene with bromine in the presence of hydrochloric acid and a solvent such as carbon tetrachloride. The product is used in the synthesis of a number of pharmaceuticals, including acetaminophen, esters, and penicillin. 1-Fluoro-4-(1-methylethenyl)benzene can be reduced electrochemically to yield styrene or chlorides. It can also be used as a coupling agent for the formation of heterocycles.
