Chlorlauric acid is a coordination complex that has been shown to be toxic to human lung epithelial cells by inducing oxidative stress. This compound also has teratogenic effects and can cause kidney cortex damage in humans. Chlorlauric acid is not absorbed into the body after oral ingestion, but can be detected in blood plasma with the use of a polarizer and plasma mass spectrometry.
