L-Glutaryl carnitine is a diagnostic agent that can be used to diagnose metabolic disorders. It is used as an analytical method for the measurement of human serum levels of ethylmalonic acid, which is a metabolite of propionyl-coa that accumulates in renal disorders. L-Glutaryl carnitine can also be used to measure the glomerular filtration rate in human serum. The polymerase chain reaction (PCR) assay has been developed for the detection of infectious diseases and other conditions such as cancer and neurological disorders. This assay relies on L-glutaryl carnitine's ability to bind with RNA and DNA, which allows it to be detected by LC-MS/MS.
