Descrizione

Glycol sulfite is a high-salt compound that is used as a chemical intermediate. It can be produced by the electrochemical reduction of methyl ethyl sulfone in an acidic solution. Glycol sulfite is also used in the transport properties of methyl sulfones, which are compounds that have a similar structure to glycols. The reaction between glycol sulfite and hydrogen fluoride produces an exothermic reaction with the release of ethylene gas. This reaction can also produce methyl sulfones, aliphatic hydrocarbons, and protonated inorganic acids.

Glycol sulfite has been studied for its use as an electrolyte for batteries and fuel cells because it has good ionic conductivity and high protonation potential.
