1,3,4,6,7,8-Hexahydro-4,6,6,7,8,8-hexamethylcyclopenta[g]-2-benzopyran is an antimicrobial agent that has been shown to have a broad spectrum of effectiveness against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. It is a water soluble molecule with a number of hydrophobic groups that allow it to penetrate the bacterial cell membrane and disrupt the cell wall. 1,3,4,6,7,8-Hexahydro-4,6,6,7,8,8-hexamethylcyclopenta[g]-2-benzopyran also possesses redox potentials that enable it to act as an antioxidant. This compound has been found to be effective in wastewater treatment by removing organic matter and nitrogen compounds.
