3-Hydroxy-2-naphthohydrazide is a reactive compound that can be formed from the metabolism of fatty acids. It binds to and inhibits epidermal growth factor receptors, which are involved in cell proliferation. 3-Hydroxy-2-naphthohydrazide has been shown to inhibit the growth of human cancer cells in culture, including carcinoma cell lines. This drug also has an effect on tumor size and weight in experimental models. 3-Hydroxy-2-naphthohydrazide is a competitive inhibitor of the binding of epidermal growth factor (EGF) to its receptor and can be used as an experimental model for EGF. The effects of this drug on tumor size and weight were seen when it was injected into mice with liver tumors.
