N'-Hydroxy-2-methylbenzenecarboximidamide is a fluorescent compound that is used in coatings and pest control. It has been shown to inhibit the dehydrogenase enzyme, which is responsible for the conversion of sugars into glucose. This inhibition prevents the formation of acetaldehyde and ethanol, which are toxic to humans. N'-Hydroxy-2-methylbenzenecarboximidamide also exhibits antifungal properties by inhibiting the production of chitin, an important component of fungal cell walls.
