4-Hydroxy-3-methylbenzonitrile is a monomer that can be used to synthesize amides and piperazines. It is a colorless liquid with a strong odor, which has been shown to react with hydrogen peroxide to form the peroxide. 4-Hydroxy-3-methylbenzonitrile may be modified by reactions with sodium hydroxide solution and linker molecules in order to produce different products. These reactions are useful for producing high yields of amides and piperazines in good yields. 4-Hydroxy-3-methylbenzonitrile also undergoes relaxations in the presence of coxsackievirus, which leads to the formation of new bonds.
