5-Hydroxyisophthalamide is a monomer that belongs to the group of polymers. It is used as an intermediate in the production of phenoxyacetamide and polyimide. 5-Hydroxyisophthalamide reacts with nitric acid to form 2,4,6-trinitrophenol (TNP). The polymerization reaction for 5-hydroxyisophthalamide can be catalyzed by hydrogenation catalyst. When heated with dimethylformamide, 5-hydroxyisophthalamide forms epoxy groups. This polymer has been used as a reactive material in the synthesis of polyiodinated compounds. 5-Hydroxyisophthalamide has been shown to yield high yields when hydrogenated using palladium on activated carbon as a catalyst.
