5-Hydroxypyrimidin-4(3H)-one is a drug target that belongs to the group of cellular targets. It has been shown to be effective against human serum as well as virus and virus RNA. This compound is also a potent antagonist of HIV integrase, which prevents the integration of HIV DNA into the host cell's genome. The synthetic pathway for 5-hydroxypyrimidin-4(3H)-one involves condensation of pyrimidine with formaldehyde followed by oxidation and dehydration. 5-Hydroxypyrimidin-4(3H)-one can be used as an inhibitor binding site for HIV integrase, inhibiting viral replication in cells and preventing the spread of infection.
