8'-Hydroxydihydroergotamine (8'-OH-DHE) is an analytical standard that can be used in the analysis of plasma samples. It has a linear response to carbamate and acetonitrile. 8'-Hydroxydihydroergotamine is also found in urine at concentrations of about 5 µg/L. The drug is metabolized by the liver, and excreted in urine as hydroxy-dihydroergotamine and dihydroergotamine. 8'-Hydroxydihydroergotamine can be used as a tracer for dihydroergotamine, which is an effective drug for the treatment of migraines and cluster headaches.
