Informazioni sul prodotto
- Benzoic Acid, 4-(1-Hydroxy-1-Methylethyl)-
- P-(1-Hydroxy-1-Methylethyl)Benzoic Acid
4-(1-Hydroxymethyl)benzoic acid (4HBA) is a metabolite of 4-hydroxybenzoic acid. It is water-soluble and has been shown to act as an antioxidant, protecting cells from oxidative stress that can lead to tissue damage. 4HBA also plays a role in the synthesis of heme, which is a vital component of hemoglobin. Metabolism of 4HBA is primarily through oxidation by molecular oxygen, which produces active metabolites such as metalloporphyrins and porphyrins.
4HBA may be converted into 4-hydroxybenzoic acid (4HB), which can then be converted into other metabolites such as 4-hydroxyhippuric acid (4HH). The metabolic pathways for these compounds are not well understood, but they are thought to play roles in the regulation of blood pressure and the metabolism of drugs such as phenacetin and acetaminophen.
