2-(2-Hydroxyphenyl)benzoxazole is a phenolic compound that has been used as a fluorescent probe. The compound has a constant emission spectrum and is sensitive to the proton transfer reaction. 2-(2-Hydroxyphenyl)benzoxazole absorbs ultraviolet light and emits light at a wavelength of 535 nm. The hydroxyl group on the 2-(2-hydroxyphenyl)benzoxazole molecule can donate an electron to form hydrogen bonds with other hydrophilic molecules, such as polymers. This property makes it useful in polymer films for optical properties, such as transparency and color.
