1,1,1,3,3,3-Hexafluoro-2-Propanamine (HFPA) is an activating agent that inhibits polymerization. It has been shown to be a functional group with the ability to activate and inhibit polymerization. HFPA is used in the production of polyethylene terephthalate by introducing it into the reaction mixture at low concentrations (0.05% w/w). The activation of HFPA may be due to its hydrogen bonding abilities or by its ability to form an ionic bond. In addition, HFPA is a potential replacement for hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) because it can be activated by irradiation and has similar properties as HFCs but does not contain chlorine or bromine atoms.
