4-Isocyanato-1,2-dimethylbenzene is a chemical species that can be found in the form of two isomers: 4-isocyanato-1,2-diisocyanate and 4-isocyanato-1,6-diisocyanate. It is used in the synthesis of sorafenib, an experimental cancer drug. Sorafenib inhibits the proliferation of cancer cells by binding to their DNA and inhibiting protein synthesis. The reactive nature of this chemical species makes it a good candidate to react with other molecules. This reaction produces a number of products including reactive oxygen species (ROS), which are known to induce cellular damage and dyslipidemia. This product also has been shown to have a high reactivity with human serum albumin and serum proteins, making it difficult for the body to metabolize.
