Descrizione

1-Isothiocyanato-3-(methylthio)benzene is a pyrrole molecule that reacts with phenyl isothiocyanate to form a multilayer. This compound is used in chemical ionization mass spectrometry as an analyte and electron ionization as an analyzer, which can be used for the detection of trace amounts of organic compounds. It also has shown to inhibit the growth of bacteria, including methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), by inhibiting protein synthesis at the ribosome level. The isothiocyanates create reactive oxygen species that are toxic to cells, leading to bacterial cell death. 1-Isothiocyanato-3-(methylthio)benzene has been used in packaging for its antioxidant properties.
