It inhibits the activity of the efflux pump in cancer cells, which is responsible for the removal of toxic substances from a cell. This leads to increased cytotoxicity and decreased cell proliferation. 1H-Indole-2-carbonitrile has also been shown to have antiinflammatory properties and is effective against inflammatory diseases such as brain infarction. 1H-Indole-2-carbonitrile is metabolized by cytochrome P450 enzymes, forming reactive intermediates that react with DNA or other cellular components, resulting in oxidative stress and metabolic disorders.
