2-(4-Iodophenyl)ethanol (DIPE) is a monoclonal antibody that can be conjugated to radioiodine or fluorescent dyes to label tumor cells in vivo. It has been shown to bind to the malonic acid receptor on tumor cells, which may induce hyperglycemia and thus increase the uptake of the labeled antibody. The molecular imaging properties of DIPE were investigated using a mouse model in which tumor cells were injected into the tail vein and uptake was monitored by gamma camera. Radioiodinated 2-(4-iodophenyl)ethanol has been used for scintigraphic imaging of biliary tract malignancies, including pancreatic cancer, cholangiocarcinoma, and hepatobiliary carcinomas.
