2-Iodofluorene is a functional group that is used in the synthesis of other organic compounds. It is also an acceptor in devices such as photomultiplier tubes and gas chromatographs. 2-Iodofluorene has been shown to be a bladder carcinogen, and it is also a sensitizer that can cause skin irritation. 2-Iodofluorene has optical properties that make it an excellent candidate for use in fluorescence studies, with absorption spectra ranging from 190 to 300 nm. This compound also has methyl alcohol functional groups, which have mass spectral peaks at m/z 80 and m/z 170. 2-Iodofluorene's nmr spectra show a singlet peak at δ 7.5 ppm, which corresponds to the hydroxyl group on the benzene ring.
