2-Iodo-4,5-dimethoxybenzaldehyde (2IDMB) is a reactive intermediate that is used in cross-coupling reactions. It has been shown to efficiently form biaryl compounds with alcohols and phosphonium salts. 2IDMB can be used as a reagent for the synthesis of dibenzofurans, which are medicinally important. The Wittig olefination reaction, which is catalyzed by 2IDMB, allows for the synthesis of triarylbismuths from bismuth carboxylates and alkenes. This process is more efficient than using phosphorus pentachloride as a catalyst.
