Iodoacetonitrile is a chemical compound that is used in the treatment of wastewater. It is also used to produce coumarin derivatives and pyrimidine compounds. Iodoacetonitrile has been shown to have anti-inflammatory effects when applied to human skin cells or liver cells, as well as an inhibitory effect on cough. The mechanism of action for these effects is the inhibition of adenosine receptor antagonists. This drug has not been tested for its efficacy in treating chronic bronchitis or other respiratory conditions, but it may be useful due to its ability to reduce inflammation.
