Ibuprofen-D3 is the deuterated form of ibuprofen, a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). It is used to reduce pain and inflammation in conditions such as arthritis. Ibuprofen-D3 is a prodrug that is converted into the active ibuprofen after ingestion. Ibuprofen-D3 has been shown to be present in plasma at concentrations of up to 1 µg/mL following oral administration, although its uptake by cells is not known. The chemical properties of ibuprofen-D3 are similar to those of ibuprofen, with the exception that it does not have aspirin's effect on platelet aggregation. Ibuprofen-D3 was used in a study as a calibrant for mass spectrometry which showed its utility for wastewater analysis.
